Mythos
by Stephen Fry

An excellent listen, and wonderful narration by the author. A delightful romp through classic Greek mythology, with wonderful modern twists.

The Scarlet Letter
by Nathaniel Hawthorne

View in Library Catalog

The Scarlet Letter is an intriguing character study that highlights the devastating power of sin—whether publicly known or left to corrupt the heart in secret. Set in Puritan New England, the plot is rather dry and mundane, and many would consider its ideals outdated. It contains mature elements as well, but Hawthorne's insight and compelling characters make his novel interesting to study. I enjoyed it, but I would only recommend it for adults!

Oliver Twist
by Charles Dickens

Dickens presents a poignant account of the trials Oliver Twist faces as an orphan boy in nineteenth-century England. Through memorable characters, intricate descriptions, and elements of action and adventure, the reader joins Oliver in his struggle against the evils of bureaucracy and hardship. This book is a truly rewarding read, and well deserving of literary merit.

The Chronicles of Narnia
by C.S. Lewis

View in Library Catalog

C.S. Lewis invites readers on a magical journey through faith and fantasy in The Chronicles of Narnia. He weaves compelling characters and heroic deeds into an adventure like no other, and sets his story in a land full of talking animals and breathtaking magic. While fairytale quests capture the imagination of young readers, Lewis’ masterful allusions to the Bible support his story with key lessons and plant the seeds of spiritual growth. Even amidst the obvious biblical references, he hides smaller symbols of faith that readers can delight in discovering and deciphering. Beautifully written and strikingly creative, Narnia is my favorite series of all time and deserves all the stars in the world!
